Partners Andrew Trask and Elise Baumgarten and associate Sumeet Dang recently coauthored the Bloomberg Law article “Patent Litigation Is Not Just for Scientists.” The article explains that attorneys with generalist backgrounds bring an important perspective to the practice of patent law. Unlike the U.S. Patent Office courts do not require patent litigators to have a technical degree. Attorneys with generalist backgrounds can be valuable assets on patent cases, helping convey technical concepts to lay decision-makers like many judges and juries. Patent cases also can present exceptional opportunities for junior lawyers to hone their advocacy skills.
