On November 4, partner John Villa made a presentation at the annual Law Firm General Counsel Workshop hosted by Georgetown University Law School, speaking on the topic “Claims Management.” This four-day workshop was specifically designed for lawyers around the country who have recently become general counsel or joined the office of general counsel of their respective law firms. As in years past, John was responsible for the portion of the workshop focusing on claims. He addressed a number of issues including organizing the defense of legal malpractice claims and cases, interaction with defense counsel, handling firm lawyers accused of malpractice, duties to notify the client of possible mistakes, communications with insurance carriers, high-risk clients and a defense lawyer’s review of law firm engagement letters.
