W&C associates Laura Sundin and Maddie Prebil represented the client on appeal, arguing that statements obtained from a witness during the client's interrogation should have been excluded because they stemmed directly from law enforcement's continued questioning of the client after he had invoked his right to counsel. The appellate court agreed, finding that the interrogation record supported the conclusion that detectives sought to obtain statements they knew violated the client's constitutional rights, and it remanded the case for a new trial.
