Sarah Harris Quoted in Bloomberg Article on Supreme Court Term

December 2020

Partner Sarah Harris was quoted in an article titled “Justices Staring Down Another Slow Term Despite Head Start,” published by Bloomberg Law on December 24, 2020. The article discussed the Supreme Court’s historically slow 2020-2021 Term. Sarah cited the combination of postponed arguments due to COVID-19 and the usual delays in connection with new justices as likely causes behind this Term’s low numbers. According to Supreme Court observers, the Court’s current signed-opinion average is below the average maintained since Chief Justice John Roberts joined the Court in 2005.  “New justices can slow things down because the court will typically hold off deciding major issues until the new member is confirmed,” Sarah said. The Court has added three new members in the last four years.
