Law360 Names Williams & Connolly Among 2021 Media & Entertainment Practice Groups of the Year

February 2022

Williams & Connolly has been named among Law360’s Media & Entertainment Practice Groups of the Year for 2021. The annual series recognizes “the law firms behind the litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry in the past year.” Led by co-chairs Tom Hentoff, Joe Terry, and Steve Fuzesi, the firm’s First Amendment and Media practice is one of the longest-standing practice groups at the firm, having represented many of the largest media, film and broadcasting companies over the past forty years.

Announcing the award, Law360 highlighted the firm’s appellate victory on behalf of famed photographer Lynn Goldsmith against the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The publication also highlighted the firm’s ongoing representation of The Washington Post and CNN in multiple matters, as well as the group’s victory on behalf of major media companies against streaming service Locast. There, the broadcasters claimed Locast infringed on their copyrights by rebroadcasting content online, and after the court granted partial summary judgement on behalf of the media companies, Locast ceased operations.
