Matthew Heins focuses his practice on civil litigation and government investigations. His civil practice spans a broad range of substantive areas including antitrust, First Amendment and media law, products liability, professional responsibility, and complex contract and business disputes. Matthew has represented clients in investigations and proceedings involving the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Federal Reserve, and the Department of Justice (DOJ). He has served clients across a variety of industries including private equity, higher education, banking and finance, accounting, construction, and pharmaceuticals. Matthew also maintains an active pro bono practice representing asylum-seekers in immigration proceedings and providing counsel to individuals and nonprofit organizations in the D.C. community.
Matthew received his JD from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif and served as the Senior Articles Editor of the Northwestern Law Review. Before joining Williams & Connolly, he clerked for Judge Matthew F. Kennelly of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and Judge William J. Kayatta, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
