Overview
It is with profound sadness that the Williams & Connolly family mourns the death of our partner and friend, Dane Butswinkas. Dane was one of the most accomplished trial lawyers in the country, widely respected and admired for his talents in the courtroom, in counseling clients, and in trying bet-the-company cases. Dane was a lawyer at our firm for 37 years, tried more than 60 cases to verdict, and served several terms on the firm’s Executive Committee, including as its Chair.
Dane tried cases of all kinds, all over the country, for civil and criminal defendants, corporations and individuals, paying and pro bono clients alike. He was elected a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2012.
“Dane was an extraordinary trial lawyer, who worked tirelessly throughout his career to give our clients the most vigorous defense anyone could muster. He was phenomenal in the courtroom and instrumental in building and maintaining the firm’s reputation. Most important to Dane, he was a devoted mentor and friend to countless Williams & Connolly colleagues,” said Joe Petrosinelli, Chairman of Williams & Connolly. “He was a world class lawyer, partner and friend, and left a legacy that will endure.”
The Williams & Connolly family sends heartfelt sympathies to Dane’s family, loved ones and many friends.
