Overview
Marcie Ziegler’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation, appeals, and criminal defense. She has extensive experience in legal writing at both the trial and appellate levels. Marcie has won numerous dispositive motions; her writing at the trial level covers the gamut of pretrial and post-trial motions, including motions to dismiss, for summary judgment, and for a new trial. Marcie also has briefed many successful appeals, including interlocutory appeals, mandamus petitions, and post-trial appeals. Marcie has extensive knowledge of civil and criminal procedure, and she has significant trial experience in complex civil and white collar criminal matters.
Marcie has represented clients in a variety of civil matters, including environmental law proceedings, complex class actions, administrative law matters, indemnification actions, contract disputes, arbitration proceedings, professional liability suits, securities fraud actions, and complex civil actions brought in conjunction with criminal proceedings. She recently won a motion to dismiss a complex securities action, and she accomplished the rare feat of convincing a federal court to vacate an arbitration award.
Marcie also has represented individuals and corporations in a wide variety of white collar criminal matters. She has represented clients in matters involving alleged conspiracy, trade secret theft, mail and wire fraud, money laundering, tax fraud, false statements, obstruction of justice, environmental offenses, Food & Drug Act violations, and securities fraud. Marcie successfully represented an executive charged with securities fraud. The government dismissed all of the charges during trial, following cross-examination of the government’s principal witness by Marcie and her co-counsel. More recently, Marcie and another Williams & Connolly partner secured the dismissal by the government of all charges against a client indicted for trade secret theft and conspiracy. Marcie’s pro bono work includes supervising criminal appeals by the firm’s associates on behalf of indigent defendants.
Marcie grew up in New Jersey. She received her A.B., cum laude, from Princeton University in 1989 and her J.D. from Yale Law School, where she was the Chair of the Yale Moot Court Board of Directors. She clerked for Judge Benson Everett Legg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland before joining Williams & Connolly in 1993.
