Emily Alden is an attorney in the Transactions and Business Counseling practice group.  Her areas of practice include representation of current and former government officials, executive compensation, strategic transactions and business counseling, as well as negotiation of publishing and other media contracts for bestselling authors, politicians, and other public figures. 

Emily regularly counsels senior-level government officials—including Cabinet Members, senior military officials, Senators, Representatives, Department of Justice and other agency officials—navigating the transition to the private sector, providing guidance on employment, board membership, business formation, speakers bureau arrangements, and media engagements.  She also represents C-suite executives and public figures in connection with their executive employment agreements, board and advisory work, and other professional endeavors. 

Emily advises a range of entities—start-ups, established businesses, and non-profits—on commercial contract negotiation, risk management, compliance matters, and corporate governance.  She represents companies in strategic transactions, including in connection with mergers and acquisitions and strategic partnerships.   

Emily grew up in Maryland and Colorado.  She graduated from Princeton University summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.  Before law school, Emily was a seventh-grade teacher at a local public school, where she was named Educator of the Year.  Emily attended Yale Law School, where she was a member of the Veterans Legal Services Clinic.  Emily joined Williams & Connolly in 2016, and co-founded and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the firm’s Families Committee. 

Emily teaches Entertainment Law at The George Washington University Law School as a Professorial Lecturer in Law.
