On February 6, 2024, Senior Counsel John Buckley and Chiann Bao will jointly address the International Committee of the American Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Section on the topic of midstream conferences in international arbitration. Their presentation will focus on the Kaplan Opening, a midstream conference held after the first round of written submissions and witness statements, but before the main hearing. The Kaplan Opening provides an opportunity for counsel to briefly introduce their respective positions to the tribunal. John and Chiann will discuss the benefits of this approach for encouraging earlier arbitrator engagement with the merits, improving case management, and facilitating settlement.
John founded the firm’s International Disputes practice. His practice focuses on international and domestic commercial arbitrations and investor-state arbitrations.
