On January 5, 2024, Williams & Connolly associate Alexandra Gutierrez will join a panel titled “The Future of New York Times v. Sullivan” at the annual meeting of the Association of American Law Schools. Panelists will discuss the status of the actual malice rule that applies in defamation lawsuits brought by public figures, in addition to discussing other current developments in communications, media, and information law.
Alexandra Gutierrez has represented media organizations in defamation cases. Prior to joining Williams & Connolly, she served as the Center for Investigative Reporting’s First Amendment Fellow and as a Yale Law Journal Public Interest Fellow.
