Lisa Blatt Presents on U.S. Supreme Court Review Panel

May 2021

On June 25, 2021, partner and Supreme Court and Appellate Litigation practice chair Lisa Blatt will present on a U.S. Supreme Court Review panel hosted by the Federal Circuit Bar Association Bench & Bar Conference. Among other topics, the panel’s discussion will address two of the Supreme Court’s landmark decisions in the area of trademark law, which Lisa argued and won in 2020*: U.S. Patent & Trademark Office v. Booking.com and Romag Fasteners, Inc. v. Fossil, Inc. In Booking.com, the Court held that the addition of a generic top-level domain (".com") to an otherwise generic term can create a protectable trademark, and in Romag, it held that a plaintiff in a trademark infringement suit is not required to show that a defendant willfully infringed the plaintiff's trademark as a precondition to seeking an award of the defendant’s profits.
