Joel received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as Articles Development Editor of the Virginia Law Review and a member of the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic.  Following law school, he clerked for Judge T.S. Ellis, III on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and Judge Robert D. Sack on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Joel joined Williams & Connolly in 2017.
