Williams & Connolly Receives Pro Bono Award from the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs

June 2014

On June 18, 2014 at its annual Wiley A. Branton Awards Luncheon, the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs presented Williams & Connolly with a 2014 Outstanding Achievement Award in the area of Equal Employment Opportunity & Immigrant and Refugee Rights.  Recognizing work performed by James Biermanand assisted by Thomas Hentoff, the Washington Lawyers’ Committee stated that: “Attorneys at Williams & Connolly secured an exceptional settlement for a Spanish-speaking client who was employed by a local restaurant and never paid for the time she worked.  Making use of the newly amended wage theft laws in DC, which provide for quadruple damages for claims of non-payment of wages, the settlement amounted to more than three times the wages denied to the client.”
