Victory for Honduran Political Activist in Asylum Case

December 2018

The firm successfully represented a pro bono client who was active in the political opposition in Honduras for nearly a decade, first as a neighborhood activist and later within the LIBRE Party. Because of his political activities, he was subject to death threats, tear gas, and repeated beatings at the hands of the military and police. He fled from Honduras after the latest beating, fearing for his life. After a harrowing two-month journey through Guatemala and Mexico, during which he was robbed of his possessions and kidnapped by a Mexican cartel, our client spent over six months in detention in Baltimore.

On December 13, 2018, a judge granted his application to remain in the United States.  We are pleased that our client can now live in the United States without the constant threat of violence he faced in his home country.

The Williams & Connolly team included Sarah Golabek-Goldman, Youlin Yuan, Will Ashworth, who were assisted by Sydney Vigran, Jacob Schindler, and Lee Mullins.
