Joel has filed several merits and certiorari-stage briefs in the Supreme Court of the United States, and has briefed many appeals and dispositive motions in the lower federal courts.

Before joining Williams & Connolly, Joel served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert D. Sack of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and to the Honorable T.S. Ellis, III of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.  While in law school, Joel served as the Articles Development Editor of the Virginia Law Review and as a member of the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic.
