Vidya Atre Mirmira has extensive experience in complex corporate litigation and employment related matters. She also has represented clients in grand jury matters and other criminal proceedings, and she has represented clients at the trial and appellate level. Ms. Mirmira’s litigation experience includes securities-related litigation, pharmaceutical products liability cases, employment matters, malpractice cases, ERISA-related litigation, FOIA matters, real estate cases, food and drug law, administrative law, and general commercial and civil litigation.
Representative matters include:
- representing a major pharmaceutical company in mass tort litigation around the country;
- representing an international law firm on several civil and criminal fronts arising out of the collapse of one of the firm’s major clients;
- representing a private equity fund with claims against the government in government-contract litigation;
- obtaining a bench trial verdict in favor of a global corporation in an ERISA class action that was upheld by the Seventh Circuit;
- defending a major corporation against charges of sexual harassment and race and gender discrimination, and conducting corporate internal investigations of alleged harassment and discrimination;
- representing individuals with claims of harassment and discrimination against major corporations;
- defending a large private equity fund against multi-million dollar claims from an investor;
- representing large residential and commercial real estate developers in various disputes;
- representing clients, including a major newspaper, in FOIA litigation to obtain administrative agency documents; and,
- representing a major pharmaceutical company in a grand jury proceeding regarding off-label marketing, and representing a medical devices company before the FDA.
Ms. Mirmira is also active in the firm’s pro bono work, in which she has represented clients facing criminal charges at trial and on appeal. She obtained a jury acquittal for one client, and she obtained a reversal on appeal (and new trial) for another client following her argument to the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. She also has negotiated favorable plea bargains on behalf of her clients.
Ms. Mirmira has practiced at Williams & Connolly since 2001. She served as a member of the firm’s Hiring Committee from 2004 to 2009. Before joining Williams & Connolly she was a law clerk to the Honorable Carolyn Dineen King, then Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
