The Firm To See
History

Our Firm

Williams & Connolly LLP is widely regarded as one of the premier litigation firms in the country.  Founded by legendary trial lawyer Edward Bennett Williams, the firm today boasts a cadre of approximately 200 lawyers imbued with the commitment to excellence that is his primary legacy.

Williams & Connolly is an unusual law firm.  Operating out of a single office in Washington, D.C., its lawyers take on "bet-the-company" civil suits and highly visible criminal cases throughout the country.  They have brought their skills of advocacy into courtrooms in virtually every jurisdiction, into the halls of the executive branch, and onto the Senate floor.

At Williams & Connolly, no case is too tough and no case is treated as routine.  Every new challenge is examined with a fresh eye.  As one of the firm's partners puts it: "There are nuances in every case.  New problems.  So you can't handle every case in the exact same way.  We do not fight by the numbers.  We do not fight the last war.  We fight this war."

This fighting spirit, and the success it breeds, are what attract clients to Williams & Connolly.  The same qualities, plus an esprit de corps that knows no rank, are what attract the best young lawyers to the firm.  Evan Thomas's best-selling biography of Edward Bennett Williams was titled "The Man to See." Today, the firm he founded is regarded by potential clients and young lawyers alike as "the firm to see."
