Mr. Berl's practice focuses on patent litigation. He has represented patentees and alleged infringers in cases in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, electronics, and medical device fields. Mr. Berl has had an active role in a number of trials and appeals to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. In addition, he has authored and argued successful motions for claim construction and summary judgment. Prior to joining Williams & Connolly in 2002, Mr. Berl was a law clerk for the Honorable Alvin A. Schall, before which he was a litigation associate at the law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
Mr. Berl obtained his degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He obtained his J.D. from Stanford University, where he received Order of the Coif honors and served as an editor of the Journal of Law, Business, and Finance.
