Charles Davant handles high-stakes, complex lawsuits.  He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts across the United States, at both the trial and appellate levels, and in arbitration proceedings.  Although Mr. Davant handles a wide variety of litigation matters, he has particular experience in the defense of law firms and accounting firms accused of malpractice or other wrongdoing.  His law practice at Williams & Connolly has included:

  • obtaining a defense verdict for a national accounting firm in a three-week jury trial involving alleged violations of GAAS and GAAP;
  • defending major law firms against former clients’ and bankruptcy trustees’ allegations of negligence in corporate transactions and litigation matters;
  • defending national accounting firms against allegations that they negligently failed to detect employees’ fraud and theft;
  • representing plaintiffs and defendants in federal civil rights actions;
  • representing plaintiffs and defendants in breach-of-contract actions;
  • obtaining verdicts or substantial settlements on behalf of tenants, landlords, and developers in real-estate disputes; and
  • representing employers and employees in disputes over non-competition agreements and in employment-discrimination matters.

Mr. Davant also has handled a wide variety of internal investigations.  He has represented individuals, corporations, and partnerships in connection with subpoenas and discovery requests.

Mr. Davant graduated first in his class, and summa cum laude, from Duke University School of Law.  He was executive editor of The Duke Law Journal, and was awarded the Constitutional Law and Civil Rights Award.  He served as a law clerk for the Honorable Ronald M. Gould on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  He was appointed by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals to its Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law in 2011.
