Alex G. Romain is a litigation partner whose practice focuses on complex securities, financial and civil litigation and white collar criminal defense.
Mr. Romain has represented corporations and their officers and directors in high-profile securities litigation, related derivative actions, criminal, administrative, and SEC enforcement proceedings involving allegations of securities and accounting fraud. He has represented corporations and individuals in grand jury investigations and at trial in high-profile criminal matters involving allegations including false statements, environmental offenses, and fraudulent misappropriation and private equity firms and banks in complex commercial civil litigation. Mr. Romain has also represented individuals in congressional and administrative investigations.
In April 2010, the National Law Journal named Mr. Romain to its “Appellate Hot List” for his work as lead attorney in the favorable decision, In re Fannie Mae Securities Litigation, 552 F.3d 814 (D.C. Cir. 2009). In 1994 and 1995, Mr. Romain worked in the Office of the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, and he received the Attorney General’s Special Commendation Award for Outstanding Service in 1995. Mr. Romain is a graduate of Yale College and the University of Michigan Law School, where he was Executive Notes Editor of the Michigan Law Review. Before joining Williams & Connolly LLP, Mr. Romain served as a law clerk to Judge Sandra L. Lynch, currently the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and Judge Reginald C. Lindsay of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
Mr. Romain is a member of Williams & Connolly LLP’s Ethics Committee and the District of Columbia Bar’s Legal Ethics Committee. He has been a member of the Adjunct Faculty at the American University Washington College of Law and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Duke Ellington Fund.
Mr. Romain is fluent in French and proficient in Spanish.
