Adam Perlman's practice focuses on complex civil litigation, in particular intellectual property disputes. A substantial portion of his practice involves representing companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries in high stakes patent litigations in federal courts around the country. In recent years, he has tried several major patent cases, including successfully defending the patents covering Eli Lilly’s blockbuster anti-cancer drug Alimta®, Alcon’s Patanol® and Vigamox® ophthalmic solutions, and Bayer’s antibiotic Avelox®, and successfully representing researchers from the University of Pittsburgh in an inventorship dispute with researchers from the University of California over the invention of isolated adipose-derived stem cells. Mr. Perlman has also argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and has served on the faculty of the ALI-ABA course Trial of a Patent Case. He has also litigated claims of misappropriation of trade secrets for clients in the biotechnology and communications industries.
Outside of the intellectual property area, Mr. Perlman's practice has included SEC, DOJ, and internal investigations relating to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and commercial litigation in a variety of substantive areas including fraud, RICO, contract, and various business torts. Mr. Perlman has also represented newspapers, magazines, television networks, and motion picture studios in a variety of defamation and other media-related litigation matters.
